An Atheistic Study of Religious Morals

I am currently in a Ethics Class at Georgia Southern University. I cannot help but note the similarities in some what the class teaches and certain Biblical Truths. Thus I will discuss the book that the class uses from a biblical standpoint. The title is merely what I think the Ethics class should be called. Now for the sake of the argument I am going to be arguing from a Reformed Christian perspective. That is I accept the teachings of Calvinism. Now on to the topic.

I will be referring to two books:

The New Spirit Life Bible (NKJV)

Meeting the Ethical Challenges of Leadership
by Craig E. Johnson Second Edition (MECL)

I will address the issues as they follow in the MECL book.

The Shadow of Power:

MECL states that:

"Our refusal to face up to the reality of power can make us more vulnerable to the shadow side of leadership."
For clarity, the author refers to leaders as casting light or shadows in leadership, light being a productive and helpful environment, shadows being a bad environment.
It also claims that "...Power has a corrosive effect on those who possess it." Both of these stating that power can be abused. A simple truth. The more power people have, however attained the more they will be tempted to abuse it and force those under them to their will, through ny sort of reward or punishment.

The Bible:
Then spoke Jesus to the multitude and to His disciples, saying, "The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. Therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do ye not according to their works; for they say, and do not. For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders, but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
Matthew 23:1-4

Some context, Jesus is talking to the multitudes about the teachers and Pharisees, a classic example of power being abused. While this topic is not particularly a religious moral it is in the Ethical Leadership book and I felt it needed to be included. I will continue as the class does.
